Deepen Your Skills In Trans-Affirming Legal Practice
An Up-Skilling Session for Lawyers, Articling Students, Final Year Law Students, and Justice Workers
As part of the Lawyers Against Transphobia Conference, we’re offering a free, trans-led ID Change Clinic to support Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people with legal name and/or gender marker changes. The clinic will provide affirming, trauma-informed support to clients navigating ID change processes in BC and across other provinces or territories.
Led by trans lawyers, we encourage law students, legal advocates, and community workers to sign up for this clinic to learn new skills that they can bring back to their communities. This is both a direct service space and a learning environment. While clients receive one-on-one help with their applications and referrals, participants, including lawyers, articling students, final-year law students, and sector workers who support trans youth, will deepen their skills in trans-affirming legal practice.
Clients and participants must apply separately.
Name & ID Change Clinic – Client Registration
The Lawyers Against Transphobia ID Clinic is a trans-led initiative supporting Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people in updating name and gender markers displayed on their government-issued identification. Alongside experienced legal professionals who run the clinic, justice workers and students will learn how to provide respectful, accurate, and trauma-informed services of this type. This may involve some learning curves, and all applications will be reviewed and verified by qualified supervising lawyers before being finalized. We are committed to accuracy, care, and accountability. If any issues arise, we will respond quickly and transparently to make things right.
If you are a Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary, or gender-diverse person looking to change your name or gender marker on your government-issued identification, please register here.
You do not need to attend the full conference to sign up for the clinic. This clinic is free of charge and trans-led.
